Chiropractic Activator Method Adjusting
-
Chiropractic Activator Method Adjusting is an alternative to traditional manipulation. It uses a hand-held instrument called an Activator that produces a high-velocity, controlled, and specific low-force impulse in the designated area that needs attention.
-
After an initial conversation about the patient’s complaints, a thorough history, and a physical examination, the patient will stand on a specialized mechanical table that will lower them from standing to lying. In this face-down position, the patient will have a series of highly researched tests performed utilizing a leg check procedure which looks for areas of abnormal body mechanics. Dr. Moreland usually describes this functional muscle testing “like a bad game of Simon Says” because he will ask the patient to place hands on their lower back and above their head, turn their face to the side, shrug their shoulders, and so forth. The movements Dr. Moreland has the patient perform are called isolation tests. Each test checks a specific vertebra or spinal segment to see if there is a malposition or other abnormality at that segment.
Activator chiropractors like Dr. Moreland use these highly specialized tests to determine locations that need correction. Then they utilize the Activator instrument to make adjustments where they are required.
Dr. Moreland often demonstrates the force behind the Activator on a patient’s fingertip before evaluating so they understand what to expect.
-
The technique facilitates neurologic changes in the brain. Dr. Moreland often tells patients that they will feel better 20-30 minutes after their treatment because it will take some time for the muscles to relax, the swelling to begin to subside, and the pain to diminish.
While some improvement is often seen with the first treatment, most conditions require several follow-up visits before they are entirely resolved. The Chiropractic Activator Method Adjusting analysis accurately determines abnormal biomechanical patterns and nerve interference or irritation areas. For this reason, Dr. Moreland informs patients about the improvements he notices and provides them with feedback about their progress. This way, the patient knows if their injury is 10% or 90% improved, so they know how quickly they may expect to recover.
