Nutritional Supplements
-
~ Many people learn about the benefits of taking nutritional supplements from an early age, with many of us growing up taking a multivitamin marketed by a famous children’s cartoon family. Does Yabba Dabba Doo ring a bell with anyone? Did we take those vitamins as kids because we were concerned about our diets being deficient in specific vitamins or minerals – heck no! We ate them because our parents told us to and because they tasted like candy.
~ Fast forward to today, television programming is filled with commercials touting the benefits of vitamins or supplements from symptoms such as joint aches and pains to cramping to brain fog and gas relief.
~ Are there supplement products designed to help support the body with various issues? Sure. Would the average person off the street know which nutritional supplements from Standard Process and MediHerb would be the most beneficial to try based on the names of their products? No, no, and no. It took Dr. Moreland years of studying these products to make recommendations proficiently.
~ Much like people seek out chiropractic care to get to the root cause of their ailments, a well-trained chiropractor or nutritionist can help you decide what supplements might help provide your body with the support it may need that might be lacking in your diet or that your body isn’t able to sustain on its own.

~ Let’s face it – most people’s diets are horrible. Between processed foods, artificial sweeteners and preservatives, even “healthy” foods are no longer healthy these days. Many people aren’t even trying to eat healthy anymore. In today’s busy society, fast-food restaurants are making a killing. The days of Mom policing what we eat to make sure that we get enough fruits and vegetables are over.
~ Nutritional supplements are a healthy alternative to help support the body in obtaining the various vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that we may not be getting sufficient quantities of in our foods. For example, everyone knows that eating fish is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, but do most people’s meals rely primarily on fish? No. Is the fried fish sandwich from the church or firehall down the street that you buy every Friday during Lent packed with nutrients to reduce inflammation and improve brain and heart health? You’d have better luck at Bingo than winning a “yes” on that question.
~ Whole food nutritional supplementation helps to fill the gaps and provide specific support to your body. Did you know that consuming organ meats will assist your body’s organs to work more effectively? Standard Process knows this, which is why several of their formulas contain protomorphagens – extracts from the nucleic acids of a gland. I don’t know about you, but I won’t be preparing any brain, thyroid, or even liver meals anytime soon. Give me a tablet, and I’ll eat it with my grilled chicken instead.

~ You may be familiar with the statement on every bottle of vitamins, which reads: “This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.” This statement is a disclaimer required by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration because it differentiates between drugs prescribed to treat specific conditions from non-drugs recommended for supporting the human body and aiding in health and proper function. Much like pharmacology uses drugs or medications to fix particular conditions in the body, clinical nutrition uses supplements containing vitamins, minerals, herbs, or botanicals to support the body and enhance vitality. To make a very long story short, nutritional supplementation can help everyone regardless of any disease processes that may be present in those individuals.
~ Some patients may elect to take a multivitamin like Standard Process’s Catalyn supplement for overall support. Other patients may seek to reduce inflammation by taking MediHerb’s Turmeric Forte. Much like the variety of vitamins and supplements on shelves in a grocery store or pharmacy aisle, Standard Process and MediHerb have many formulas available to assist with almost any health goal you may have. For example, do you want a glucosamine supplement for your achy joints? Do you want a quality omega-3 supplement because you don’t like to eat fish? Schedule a nutrition consultation with Dr. Moreland and let him explain what nutritional supplementation options you may have.
